Volunteer Tutor

What is Stay-On-Track?

Stay-On-Track is a summer reading program for children, grades 1-3, to help them maintain and improve their reading skills during the summer. Volunteer tutors meet with students one-on-one at the Library to practice reading and phonics with games, activities, and stories.

Tutor Responsibilities

Stay-On-Track volunteers meet with a student twice each week for 30 minutes throughout June and July. Volunteers arrange with students' families to find the times that work best. Schedules are flexible! We understand that volunteers may have vacations, commitments, etc. throughout the summer. All tutoring materials are provided by the Literacy Department.

How to Volunteer

  1. Fill out a Stay-On-Track volunteering form.
  2. Complete a background check.
  3. Return finished form to the Library by May 7th, 2024.
  4. Attend a training on May 21st at 11am-12:30pm*

* Or by arrangement with Literacy coordinator. Volunteers from past years and teachers do not need to attend a training.

For more information, please download the printable volunteer form below, or contact the Literacy Department. Forms are also available at the Library.

How Do I Register My Child?

Because of limited availability, our Stay-On-Track program is offered to students by invite only. There are no open signups. Brigham City elementary teachers distribute a fixed number of application materials from the Literacy Department at the end of April each year.

For additional reading tools, resources, and activities, please visit our Parent Helps page.
